Welcome to the auction of a absolutely guaranteed original very fine condition American 30 inches by 31 inches in size linenbacked RINGLING BROS AND BARNUM & BAILEY 1946 CIRCUS POSTER . Keep in mind the size 30x31 inches includes the entire area of the linenbacking . The linenbacking has some light creases along the edges that can be trimmed or easily covered when matted in the framing process , it is pretty light and only extends about a inch into the poster in about 4 area's and can't be seen in the photo . When framed The 2 pieces are smaller obviously then the entire size including both posters and the larger area of the linenbacking. The top piece is about 14 by 28 inches in size . This poster was posted all over MARSHALLTOWN, whereever that is, just before the show which was Aug. 29th, 1944 . Thru Ebay a member wrote in reference to this poster -
FYI while this poster was copyright 1944 it was actually used for performances August 29, 1946. If you check a 1944 calendar you will confirm the day and date. Ringling didn’t play any single day stands in 1944 because of wartime railroad restrictions and after the Hartford fire on July 6, 1944 the rest of the season was played in arenas and ballparks - all at least for two days or longer. This is a so called "wild posting" poster that was pasted up all over town and had the banner with the playdate glued to the bottom inch or so of the poster, I know this because all 5 I bought recently which were from 1943 to 1945 all had these banners with the playdate glued to the bottom edge of the colorful generic poster for that particular act or year. I have linenbacked both posters onto the one piece and had the banner removed from overlapping the other poster and left a 3/4 inch space between the posters. I kept them together as I think it's presentation this way is better , it's more authentic and nice to know exactly how and where this rare WWII World War 2 era poster was used.
